Value: £1,100,000.00
Project: Design and build: Installation of mechanical services, temperature control and temperature control to new factory
Time scale
12 months
Scope
This project involved designing and installing the following, to support 3 x MAN printing presses:
3 x Air cooled chillers 800kW
2 x Dry air coolers
Circulating pumps
2 x Temperature control cabinets (4 zones)
Exhaust Stacks
Heat recovery system
Structual steel works
Associated Pipework
PLC control system
Energy Efficiency
In order to minimise running costs the Carrier XA chillers were chosen as these were the market leaders in terms of energy efficiency.
Dry air coolers were installed to make use of the low ambient temperature available. 95% of the year (including evenings) the ambient temperature is below 20 degrees. When the ambient rises above 20 degrees the dry air coolers are bypassed and the chilled water circuit is utilised via a heat exchanger.
The cost of the dry air coolers is usually reclaimed through energy savings within 6 months.
PLC control
In order to ensure the system runs trouble free a PLC with HMI touchscreen was installed. This brings the dry air coolers on, sequences the pumps and rotates the chillers for even wear. It also monitors the mechnaical and electrical systems to warn the client of any faults and provides graphical trends and history of each process temperature.
Heat Recovery
In order to make use of the heat that escapes to atmosphere from the press oven we installed an air to air heat exchanger in to the exhaust stack. This then sucks in ambient air from outside and heats it through the exhaust stack which then in turn heats the factory. Calecon down draught blowers were also installed to moderate the temperature within the building helping to elimante hot spots.
