HVAC solution for extension at existing school

Supporting science education for Bedfordshire children

The full design, supply and installation of underfloor heating and ventilation systems for 14 new classrooms and four science laboratories and prep rooms.

Henlow Academy is a middle school in Bedfordshire. The extension and new plant room were fitted out whilst the school was operational. All new equipment needed to link seamlessly to the existing school HVAC, without impacting the day-to-day running of the school.

Key challenges:

  • The school remained in operation throughout the installation
  • Our HVAC solution needed to be cost-effective, reduce energy costs and integrate with an existing system
  • The new laboratories required good ventilation, Gas Safe applications and a Cat 5 booster for the water supply.

Solutions:

  • Specified a MVHR system for ventilation and underfloor heating to reduce energy consumption and cost
  • Installed a simple-to-control BMI system to connect the new component to the existing system
  • Out of hours working and a strict health and safety commitment allowed us to complete the works without impacting the day-to-day workings of the school
