Upgrading HVAC systems for NHS hospitals and medical centres

The upgrade of chiller systems and air handling units for NHS medical centres and
hospitals, including the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow and the Waltham Cross
Medical Centre.

All work was undertaken in live medical environments, including theatres and wards,
and demanded innovative working practices to ensure shutdowns were kept to a
minimum. A full plan was produced in revit ahead of any work to ensure clean
reconnections to existing gas and ventilation systems, and minimal disruption to the
medical staff and patients. The Waltham Cross medical centre contained a Covid Hub
that required a negative pressure system.

Key challenges:

  • Live medical environment requiring fast, efficient turnarounds
  • Work required during 2020 Covid-19 lockdown

Solutions:

  • Full system planned in Revit to ensure it’s effectiveness ahead of going on-site
  • Experienced team ensured that each upgrade was delivered quickly and
    efficiently
  • ‘Key Worker’ status was granted allowing us to work on site within Covid-safe
    guidelines

system including new inverters, control valves and actuators, coils, door seals and fan
belts, cleaning services.
